Job Description
Missions
The postdoctoral position is part of the UNSWOT project (UNravel SWOT SSH in an internal tide hotspot south of New Caledonia), funded by CNES. The project is hosted at LOPS within the Ocean Scale Interactions (OSI) team and led by Clément Vic, in collaboration with Sophie Cravatte (LEGOS). The goal is to jointly use mooring data (currents, temperature) and sea surface height measurements from satellite altimetry (SWOT) to disentangle the dynamics of internal tides from low-frequency (mesoscale) dynamics.
Activity
The work involves the joint analysis of SWOT data and data from the four moorings deployed during the SWOTALIS and KASEAOPE campaigns (south of New Caledonia) to reconstruct the sea surface height signal associated with different dynamic features: internal tide waves and mesoscale dynamics. The project is part of the Adopt A Crossover consortium, with the lead researcher based at LOCEAN (F. d'Ovidio). Visits to LOCEAN are planned, and integration into the SWOT science community is a key aspect.
Your Profil
Skills
-- Knowledge in fine-scale, high-frequency ocean dynamics
- Proficient in Python for geophysical data processing
- Ability to communicate results through scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at international conferences (in English).
Your Work Environment
The work will be carried out at LOPS, with planned visits to LOCEAN. Interaction with the OSI team is encouraged (e.g., collaboration with C. de Marez, a SWOT expert). The primary goal is to refine our understanding of high-frequency dynamics in a region characterized by highly energetic internal waves. The project covers conference fees and travel expenses, as well as publication fees.
