Missions

As part of the European project MUSIC, the engineer will be responsible for shaping and characterizing different types of carbon-based electrodes for high power batteries or supercapacitors. Surface treatments of these materials will also be carried out (molecular grafting, heat treatments, etc.). He/she will also be responsible for characterizing materials synthesized in the laboratory or by project partners, using chemical, structural and microstructural characterization tools. An important part of the mission will be dedicated to the preparation of electrodes with the materials synthesized/supplied, and to the implementation of electrochemical characterization techniques, possibly coupled with other analytical techniques for in-situ or operando observations. Particular attention will be paid to the power handling and cyclability of the electrodes prepared, in line with the objectives of the MUSIC project.

Activités

Main tasks:
- Designing carbon-based electrodes
- Chemical, structural and microstructural characterizations
- Electrochemical characterizations
- Setting up operando/in-situ characterizations to study electrode/electrolyte couplings.
Other activities :
- Supervision of trainees working on part of the project
- Drafting of reports and presentations of work at monthly meetings
- Drafting of scientific articles and/or patents

Compétences

- The candidate must have an engineering degree, a Master 2 or a PhD in chemistry or materials engineering. Expertise in materials synthesis would be highly appreciated, as well as significant experience in electrochemical characterization of components for energy storage systems.
- Motivation, creativity, autonomy, rigor, teamwork.
- Spoken and written English

Contexte de travail

The project is part of the MUSIC target project supported by the H2020 which targets hybrid sodium-ion capacitors. The MUSIC project brings together a consortium of European laboratories and companies to design and evaluate innovative high-power devices. The post-doc will be based in the ST2E team at the Institut des Matériaux Jean Rouxel de Nantes (IMN), UMR CNRS 6502, CNRS/Nantes Université, under the supervision of Prof. Thierry Brousse. The host team has extensive expertise in battery and pseudo-capacitor materials, acquired over the last 20 years through industrial partnerships and international collaborations.

Le poste se situe dans un secteur relevant de la protection du potentiel scientifique et technique (PPST), et nécessite donc, conformément à la réglementation, que votre arrivée soit autorisée par l'autorité compétente du MESR.

Contraintes et risques

Standard risks associated with a research project in the field of materials science and chemistry.
Travel: As this is a collaborative project, short visits to partner laboratories may be envisaged. Travel for a few days to meetings and conferences (possibly abroad) is also planned.
