With a training in physical chemistry, the hired PhD will use several analytical techniques to follow the ageing of the polymers from the molecular scale (spectroscopy) to the mechanical properties (tensile test…). Based on a bibliographic survey, he (she) will be able to interpret the ageing mechanisms of the materials under the impact of their use conditions. He (she) will also be in charge of the application of results related to the introduction of contaminants in the formulated materials.
The Photochemistry team at ICCF is hiring a postdoctoral researcher for 12 months. He (she) will carry out accelerated and natural artificial ageing of polymer films, and characterize the changes in their properties. He (she) will also be in charge of the application of results related to the introduction of contaminants in the formulated materials. The polymers studied will be processed by the industrial partner Barbier, while the photoageing will be carried out at ICCF (Photochemistry team, POPPI group). The post-doctoral researcher will contribute to the meetings with the industrial partner Barbier and will work in close relationship with it.
Holding a PhD in Material Science or in Physical Chemistry, he (she) is fluent in english (written and oral). Knowledge on polymer materials are required. Autonomy, dynamism, intellectual curiosity and people skills are necessary.
The POPBA project (ANR Labcom 2018) deals with the influence of processing and formulation on the durability of polyolefine properties under environmental ageing. This project involves the POPPI group from the Photochemistry team at ICCF together with the Barbier company from Sainte-Sigolène which produces polymer films for agricultural applications, industrial packaging and bag manufacturing.
The scientific project of POPBA is mainly focused on two topics:
- The impact of orientation on the photoageing of polyethylene films
- The Impact of "contaminants" (either chromophoric or not) on the photoageing of formulated materials.
The PhD will mainly work in the laboratory at ICCF in Clermont-Ferrand and will punctually move to the Barbier company place in Sainte-Sigolène. By means of the POPBA project, the main facilities from the Photochemistry team at the ICCF and the Barbier company will be provided.
