Job Description

Missions

Design and conduct experiments aimed at characterizing microalgae–bacteria interactions, using both individual cultures and co-culture systems.

Set up and monitor microbial and algal physiology experiments under controlled conditions.

Generate and analyse molecular, biochemical and physiological data to characterize microbial responses to different experimental conditions.

Contribute to the characterization of the molecular and metabolic mechanisms underlying microalgae–bacteria interactions.

Generate, process and integrate multi-omics datasets to identify biological mechanisms and functional responses of the microorganisms under study.

Contribute to the integrated interpretation of experimental results, the scientific dissemination of the work, and the preparation of scientific publications and presentations.
Ensure the traceability, organization and documentation of experimental data and protocols.

Activity

Perform sterile cultures of bacteria and microalgae, both separately and in co-culture.

Extract DNA, RNA, proteins and metabolites.

Perform PCR, qPCR, Western blotting and microscopy.

Conduct microbial and algal physiology experiments.

Perform cloning, mutagenesis and transformation.
Conduct high-throughput bioinformatics analyses, including RNA-seq, sequence assembly, metadata analysis, metabolomics and multi-omics data integration.

Your Profil

Skills

Experimental skills
Proficiency in culturing bacteria and microalgae under sterile and controlled conditions.
Proficiency in molecular biology techniques, including DNA and RNA extraction, PCR/qPCR, cloning, mutagenesis and transformation.
Experience in protein and metabolite extraction and analysis.
Good experience with microscopy techniques.
Experience in physiological experiments and in monitoring growth parameters and cellular responses.
Bioinformatics skills
Proficiency in the analysis of high-throughput sequencing data, particularly RNA-seq.
Experience in genome and/or metagenome assembly and analysis.
Experience in the analysis and integration of multi-omics data, particularly transcriptomic and metabolomic datasets.
Ability to process, analyse and interpret high-throughput biological datasets.
Proficiency in one or more programming and data analysis environments/tools (R, Python, Linux, etc.).
Ability to integrate experimental datasets of different types and establish links between molecular, physiological and metabolic data.
Transferable skills
Ability to independently plan and organize experiments.
Rigorous approach to experimental work, data documentation and analysis.
Ability to interpret complex results and formulate scientific hypotheses.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team and interact with researchers from different disciplines.
Strong scientific communication skills in English, both written and oral.
Ability to disseminate and valorise research findings through reports, presentations and scientific publications.

Your Work Environment

The position is based within the “Microalgal Epigenomics and Interactions with the Environment” team at the US2B laboratory (UMR 6286). The team investigates the molecular, and particularly epigenetic, responses of microalgae to their environment, including both biotic factors (bacteria) and abiotic factors (salinity, temperature, nutrient limitation and photo-oxidative stress).
The successful candidate will work primarily with Leïla Tirichine.
