The aim of the candidate will be to grow and characterize ultrathin (some nanometers) films of insulating ferrimagnets. The growth methods will be either the liquid phase epitaxy (LPE), either RF sputtering. The characterization methods employed are X-rays diffraction and reflectivity, and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) for the structural part. In another hand, the Vibrating Sample Magnetometry (VSM), Ferromagnetic Resonance (FMR) and Faraday-effect rotation will be used for the magnetic characterization.
This study is a part of the GigaSpin project, which is financed by ANR contract. The main goal of the GigaSpin project is to develop an instrument implementing a novel spectroscopy approach that relies on tunable optical resonant excitation where the laser repetition rate can be continuously varied to match any magnonic or phononic eigen-frequencies of the material under investigation. The setup and the extended capacities of this novel method will be demonstrated by exploring the magnetic and acoustic properties of a chosen set of specific materials.
The candidate may have to work in the partner structures to realize complementary measurements: IPR (Rennes), LP2N (Bordeaux), UMPhy (Palaiseau).

Work Context

The Lab-STICC is the Laboratory of sciences and techniques of information, communication and knowledge, represented in Brest, Quimper, Lorient and Vannes, hiring 630 people.
The fellow will work in the Western Brittany University, in Brest in the ANR GigaSpin project "GHz resonant excitation of magnons and Phonons from tunable optical frequency combs"
