Missions

The main mission of the candidate will be to support the progress of the ANR KASHMIR and NEWLIGHT projects, with a particular focus on photonics and materials science. The candidate will be actively involved in the experimental characterization of the luminescence of rare-earth-doped chalcogenide glasses and thin films, working in close collaboration with a PhD student currently in the first year of her thesis. Working alongside the scientific coordinator, the candidate will also assist with the scientific and administrative management of the projects within the ISCR (Institut des Sciences Chimiques de Rennes).

Activités

The candidate will contribute to the research activities carried out within the framework of the ANR KASHMIR and NEWLIGHT projects, which focus on infrared photonics and rare-earth-doped chalcogenide materials. The main activities will include:

- Synthesis of rare-earth-doped chalcogenide glasses.

- Deposition of thin films by radio frequency (RF) sputtering (PVD).

- Chemical and optical characterization of glasses and thin films using various techniques: SEM, EDS, AFM, profilometry, transmission and reflection spectroscopy, refractive index measurements (m-lines, ellipsometry), XPS, Raman and IR spectroscopy.

- Spectroscopic measurements of rare-earth ions in the near- and mid-infrared ranges.

- Judd–Ofelt modeling and quantum efficiency calculations.

- Luminescence characterization of photonic integrated circuits (PICs) and evaluation of their performance.

- Participation in the optimization of optical and photonic instrumentation used in the projects.

- Analysis and interpretation of experimental data in relation to the scientific objectives of the projects.

- Collaboration with a PhD student working on rare-earth spectroscopy and the development of mid-IR luminescent PICs.

- Preparation of technical reports and oral presentations, and contribution to the writing of scientific reports and ANR project deliverables.

- Support to the scientific coordinator in the coordination of actions and the technical and scientific follow-up of the projects.

Compétences

-Required Skills and Qualifications:

Excellent written English skills, with proven ability to write scientific publications effectively.

PhD in Chemistry with a specialization in Materials Science or Solid State Physics.
