Job Description
Missions
The post-doctoral fellow will develop numerical simulations in materials physics to rationalize the properties of metal halide perovskites and related semiconductors
Activity
Main Responsibilities
- Characterize the physical properties of halide perovskite-based semiconductors using tools and concepts from solid-state physics;
- to explain and predict the physical properties of halide perovskite-based semiconductors using ab initio (DFT) and/or semi-empirical (tight-binding, effective mass) and/or intermediate (DFTB) codes and adapt some of these codes to account for the specific characteristics of the materials and heterostructures under study;
- develop efficient atomistic methodologies for calculating the physical properties of interest;
Secondary duties:
- preparing reports, oral presentations, and drafting publications;
- participating in weekly meetings of the “Rennes Perovskite Group” and the CTI team, as well as in events such as workshops, symposia, and national and international conferences;
- Business travel to support existing collaborations with partner laboratories, primarily located abroad (Europe and the U.S.), and/or to acquire new skills.
Your Profil
Skills
- Hold a Ph.D. in Physics;
- Have a thorough understanding of solid-state and semiconductor physics, particularly as it relates to optoelectronic applications;
- Be familiar with quantum theories, notably density functional theory (DFT) and its extensions;
- Be able to use DFT codes for solids and supercomputers;
- Be proficient in programming tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python, C, Fortran, parallel computing, etc.);
- Be fluent in spoken and written English;
Desirable knowledge:
- hybrid halogenated perovskites;
- nuclear magnetic resonance and nuclear quadrupole resonance spectroscopy;
- Mueller matrices and associated optical properties;
- semi-empirical/empirical models.
Your Work Environment
The Institut des Sciences Chimiques de Rennes (ISCR - UMR6226) is a joint research unit of the CNRS, the University of Rennes 1, the École Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Rennes (ENSCR) and the Institut National des Sciences Appliqués de Rennes (INSA Rennes). This institute is the result of bringing together all the academic forces in chemistry on the Rennes site. It brings together more than 280 permanent staff, with a total workforce of almost 500 people in 8 teams.
The Theoretical Inorganic Chemistry (CTI) team, which will host the agent, is made up of 13 researchers and teacher-researchers, and is recognized for its activities involving the use of quantum physics/chemistry approaches in a wide variety of fields.
The agent's activity will be entirely dedicated to the work proposed by the supervisors. The employee will benefit from the expertise developed at the Rennes site by the physicists and chemists of the ISCR and FOTON Institutes working for more than a decade on metal halide perovskites, for which they are internationally recognized. To carry out his/her work, the agent will have access to computational resources at local, major national and European centers.
