Job Description
Missions
A full-time postdoctoral position is available in the Inorganic Theoretical Chemistry (CTI) group at the Rennes Institute of Chemical Sciences (ISCR), under the supervision of Dr. Boris Le Guennic. The position is for one year starting in September 2026 and is fully funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR). The project focuses on the simulation of organolanthanide single-molecule magnets using quantum chemistry approaches.
Activity
The successful candidate will use quantum chemistry methods to investigate the electronic structure and magnetic properties of lanthanide complexes.
The project will be carried out in close collaboration with experimental teams responsible for the synthesis of the systems and their magnetic characterization.
Your Profil
Skills
Required skills:
Quantum chemistry methods based on i) Density Functional Theory (DFT), and ii) Wavefunction-based approaches
Experience with quantum chemistry software packages
Desirable knowledge:
Molecular magnetism
Spectroscopy of heavy elements
Spin–phonon interactions
Your Work Environment
The Rennes Institute of Chemical Sciences (ISCR – UMR 6226) is a Joint Research Unit bringing together the CNRS, University of Rennes, École Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Rennes (ENSCR), and INSA Rennes. The institute was created by consolidating all academic chemistry research activities in Rennes. It brings together more than 280 permanent staff members, with a total workforce exceeding 500 people distributed across eight research teams.
The postdoctoral researcher will join the Inorganic Theoretical Chemistry (CTI) group at the Rennes Institute of Chemical Sciences (ISCR). This group comprises theoretical chemists (15 permanent members and approximately 15 graduate students) with complementary expertise and experience across a broad range of quantum chemistry methods, from wavefunction-based approaches to semi-empirical techniques. CTI researchers investigate a variety of systems, including isolated molecules, bulk materials, and surfaces.
The CTI group provides a stimulating scientific environment, featuring regular group meetings and seminars by internationally recognized visiting researchers. Extensive computational resources are available, both locally and through national high-performance computing centers, to support the group's research activities.
