Job Description

Missions

Emerging implantable bioelectronics are transforming medicine by enabling continuous sensing, neural interfacing, and closed-loop therapeutics directly inside the body. A major remaining challenge is the development of miniature wireless systems that can efficiently communicate and harvest energy deep inside biological tissues without relying on batteries.
Within the ERC-funded project BESSEL, we are recruiting a highly motivated researcher to work on the theory, optimization, and experimental development of miniature implantable antenna systems for next-generation implantable devices, including fully battery-free platforms for closed-loop neural interfacing.

Activity

The project combines:
• electromagnetic theory and wave physics,
• implantable antenna engineering,
• wireless power transfer,
• neurotechnologies and bioelectronics.
The successful candidate will contribute to:
1) establishing theoretical limits and design principles for mm-sized implanted antennas;
2) developing efficient in-body wireless links in complex biological environments;
3) designing novel miniature and conformal antenna systems;
4) investigating adaptive and multiplexed wireless powering strategies;
5) validating designs through advanced simulations and experiments incuding in vivo.

Your Profil

Skills

Candidate Profile
We seek outstanding and curious candidates with:
• PhD. (or equivalent) in electromagnetics, electrical engineering, applied physics, or related fields,
• strong background in antennas, microwaves, wave physics, or computational electromagnetics,
• experience with EM simulation tools (CST, HFSS, COMSOL, etc.),
• programming skills (Python/MATLAB),
• strong motivation for high-impact interdisciplinary research.

Your Work Environment

The work will be carried out in a highly interdisciplinary and international environment at the IETR laboratory (CNRS), with access to state-of-the-art computational, fabrication, and measurement facilities, and in close interaction with collaborators in bioelectronics, electromagnetics, physics, and medicine.

Environment & Opportunities
• ERC-funded frontier research project,
• International collaborations (EPFL, Stanford, NUS, TU Delft, CCNY, etc.)
