Job Description

Missions

With prior experience in electromagnetic compatibility or radio frequency characterization, the recruited Research Engineer (M/F) will be responsible for validating the electromagnetic properties of a vibrating reverberation chamber currently being installed at the IETR's QOSC platform. They will then develop innovative testing protocols for the characterization of reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) in terms of absorption and diffraction.
As part of the CNRS's national network of radio frequency characterization infrastructures (RF-Net), the engineer will participate in scientific collaborations focused on RIS within the framework of the Future Networks PEPR (Priority Research Program and Equipment). They will also contribute to the development of new measurement protocols associated with vibrating reverberation chambers.

Activity

The recruited individual will leverage their experience in implementing test protocols and processing measurement data, particularly through statistical analysis. Using these methods, they will assess the performance level of the vibrating reverberation chamber and determine the conditions required for its optimal operation based on scientific literature criteria.
Once these conditions are established, various scenarios for evaluating the performance of Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) will be considered to qualify their intrinsic performance by capitalizing on the advantages offered by this type of facility. Additionally, through the RF-Net network, they will contribute to cross-validation activities with similar facilities available within the network.

Your Profil

Skills

The skills sought for this position are primarily those of a research engineer specializing in experimental techniques within the context of electromagnetic compatibility and/or radio frequency testing, with a desire to develop or strengthen their expertise in the field of electromagnetic reverberation chambers.
Required Knowledge:

Radio frequency measurement systems
Programming (Python, C++, etc.)
Electromagnetic waves and wave-matter interaction
Electromagnetic propagation, radiation, and associated models
Measurement data processing (particularly statistical analysis)
Desirable Skills:

Project management
Technical documentation and scientific article writing
Operational Skills:

Ability to propose projects
Autonomy and initiative
Leadership and facilitation skills
Teaching and mentoring abilities
Behavioral Skills:
Strong interpersonal skills (team spirit)

Your Work Environment

As part of the Future Networks PEPR (Priority Research Program and Equipment), the characterization of technological components intended for next-generation communication systems is a critical challenge. This requires the evolution of both characterization methods and facilities. Within this PEPR, the CNRS's RF-Net network—through its targeted project on "experimental platforms"—contributes to addressing these challenges.
In particular, the IETR's QOSC platform, a member of RF-Net, is installing a vibrating reverberation chamber to tackle the characterization of Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS). The goal is to provide the scientific and industrial communities with innovative measurement protocols that enable an intrinsic evaluation of RIS performance. These surfaces are expected to play a significant role in future communication systems.
