Job Description
Missions
The postdoc will conduct research in a collaborative project with Thales TRT and Sorbonne University as part of the ANR-ASTRID Maturation M.O.C.A.C.C.I.N.O. project. The project aims to develop new digital tools for high-gain antennas for satellite applications. The concepts will be validated through measurement campaigns with partners.
Activity
The main objective of this research is to design and optimize high-performance planar antennas using the analysis tool. The postdoc will develop numerical analysis codes for high-gain antennas and validate the results through electromagnetic modeling with commercial simulators. The postdoc will also be responsible for monitoring the manufacture and characterization of these antennas. The postdoc will promote the research work in publications and scientific presentations.
Your Profil
Skills
- PhD in electrical engineering/telecommunications, applied mathematics, physics, or a related field;
- Proficiency in electromagnetic theory, mathematics, physics, and numerical methods;
- Experience in one or more of the following electromagnetic techniques and associated commercial software is highly desirable: MoM, FDTD, FEM;
- Experience in programming, particularly in Matlab;
- Excellent command of English, both spoken and written.
Your Work Environment
The current state of the art in communication and surveillance systems reveals the need for complex radiating input modules. These systems must be able to manage multiple beams in order to cover large areas with high antenna gain. Integrated 3D multi-beam antennas could represent a major advance for military and civilian applications, particularly for the integration of such systems on mobile platforms. Currently, the most promising solutions are based on quasi-optical beamforming networks (BFNs) made using multi-layer SIW technology. A significant advance in the integration of antenna input modules could be achieved by combining quasi-optical SIW BFNs with 3D integration technology. However, the benefits of 3D integration depend heavily on the ability of academia and industry to provide accurate and reliable analysis and design tools. From an electromagnetic perspective, in particular, the problem poses a significant challenge for current commercial analysis tools. In recent years, at GeePs, a powerful analysis tool has been developed for the analysis of large multilayer SIW electromagnetic devices.
This tool is based on the hybridization of different techniques (method of moments, also known as the boundary element method, mode adaptation, and asymptotic techniques) [1]-[4] in order to maximize the speed of analysis. The resulting code has been used to optimize new antenna solutions [5]-[7].
The agent will mainly carry out their duties at the IETR, based in Rennes, within the SUMIT team under the responsibility of Mr. Mauro ETTORE. As part of their duties, they will be assigned to a long-term mission at the GEEpS laboratory in Gif-sur-Yvette, in the context of this collaborative project.
