Job Description

Missions

The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to Fractory's research projects on the modeling of fractured media for hydrogeology and geomechanics. They will develop a dedicated module focused on induced seismicity in geothermal fields.

Activity

Use and validate a numerical model developed by Fractory to investigate the impact of fluid flow through fractured networks on induced seismicity.
Apply the model to case studies from deep geothermal energy projects to assess various risk factors associated with induced seismicity.
The postdoctoral researcher will be expected to disseminate their work through scientific publications and presentations at conferences.

Your Profil

Skills

At the time of appointment, the postdoctoral researcher must hold a Ph.D. (or equivalent degree) in Earth Sciences, with a specialization in geology and/or geophysics. The successful candidate must demonstrate strong skills in scientific software development using C++, MATLAB, Python, or equivalent programming languages. Additional expertise in numerical analysis, continuous integration, and graphical user interface (GUI) development is desirable.
The candidate must also have experience applying geomechanical models to problems related to the subsurface and/or induced seismicity. Experience in fractured media modeling, reservoir geomechanics, and/or the analysis of interactions between deformation, fracturing, and seismicity will be considered an asset.

Your Work Environment

The position is funded through the INTERTWINE project (ANR-23-ERCS-0004) and is part of the activities of the Fractory joint laboratory, a collaboration between the CNRS, the University of Rennes 1 (Géosciences Rennes, UMR 6118), and Itasca. Fractory's research focuses on the modeling and monitoring of environmental systems. The postdoctoral researcher will join a multidisciplinary team of 10 members from both academia and industry.
