Job Description
Missions
This position is part of the SuPRTryP project, supported by the PEPR BBEST program, which combines computational and experimental approaches to harness the diversity of yeasts and valorize agri-food byproducts through fermentation.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the structural and functional annotation of enzymatic functions in yeast genomes, and for interpreting these in terms of metabolic pathways of interest. These methods will be applied to a selection of several hundred yeast strains chosen by the project consortium.
Activity
- Predicting the ability of yeasts to produce metabolic compounds of interest based on their genomes.
- Structural and functional annotation of yeast genomes of interest
- Reconstruction of metabolic pathways corresponding to tryptophan derivatives and identification of the best strains capable of producing them
Your Profil
Skills
- Advanced knowledge of bioinformatics.
- Genome assembly and annotation.
- Molecular biology.
- Implementation and deployment of bioinformatics pipelines
- Knowledge of machine learning
- Expertise in structural and functional genome annotation.
- Programming (Python).
Your Work Environment
This position is part of the SuPRTryP project, supported by the PEPR BBEST program, which aims to develop sustainable biotechnological alternatives to petroleum-based chemical synthesis for the production of high-value-added metabolites such as melatonin and serotonin. The project is based on the analysis of yeast genomes, the development of fermentation processes using residual biomass, and a use case focused on the valorization of byproducts from vineyards and winemaking. The goal is to create a complete value chain, from microbial biodiversity to the transformation of waste into value-added products, using methods that can be transferred to other industries.
The successful candidate will be expected to integrate into the project by collaborating with the project's bioinformatics engineers and PhD students (IRISA laboratory, Biographs/Dyliss team), members of the GenOuest bioinformatics platform for computational tasks, and the consortium's partner biologists and chemists.
The candidate will also be expected to participate in the annual PEPR BBEST events to share their achievements with all PEPR projects.
