Missions

Optical detection is a key tool in microscopy and for the design of sensors, because it allows for the real time quantitative monitoring of several environmental or biological parameters simultaneously. Multiplexing is generally based on fluorophores with different emission wavelengths. However, it is also possible to use the emission lifetime to create a contrast. For example, FLIM (Fluorescence-lifetime imaging microscopy) technique is able to map dyes in fonction of their fluorescence lifetime. Moreover, « time gated » method, discard the majority of off target signals by introducing a delay between the excitation and the measurement.
The postdoctoral researcher will be in charge of synthesizing (5-6 steps) new dyes with long emission lifetimes. Then He/She will study their optical properties in solution and solid state. This study will include the measurement of fluorescence quantum yields, phosphorescence, and emission lifetime.

Activities

Organic synthesis
Emission measurements (spectra)
Emission lifetimes measurements

The candidate has to possess strong expertise in organic synthesis (synthesis, purification, characterization)
Experience in dyes chemistry, and optical properties measurement techniques would be a plus.

Work Context

CARMeN (former COBRA) UMR 6064 a joint laboratory of CNRS/Université de Rouen Normandie/INSA de Rouen/Université de Caen Normandie/ENSICAEN in analytical and organic chemistry.
CARMeN's overall scientific objective is to develop innovative methods in organic synthesis, polymers, analytical chemistry and molecular modeling, and to apply them to different sub-fields of the discipline (bioorganic chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, eco-responsible chemistry, materials chemistry), supported by a high-performance analytical research team. The place of work will be the IRCOF building on the campus of the University of Rouen, Mont Saint Aignan.
This contract is funded by the Emergence region Normandie program.

The position is located in a sector under the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST), and therefore requires, in accordance with the regulations, that your arrival is authorized by the competent authority of the MESR.

Constraints and risks

The main risks are associated with the handling of chemicals and the use of LASER diodes.
