Missions

The person recruited for this postdoc fellowship will have to carry out a research work on the analysis of the asymptotic behavior of a model of tropical forest dynamics, determined by a system of reaction-diffusion equations degenerated in space and integrating the effect of climatic and anthropic perturbations.

Activités

The research work will start with a literature review of recent results on the long time dynamics of degenerate reaction-diffusion models. Then, weak topology methods will be experimented to describe the dynamics of the forest model by trajectory attracting sets, in a functional context characterized by a lack of compactness. The effect of climatic or anthropic disturbances will finally be modeled by coupling the continuous system with a discrete probabilistic process. Depending on the results obtained, the research work will lead to the publication of articles in scientific journals and to oral communications in conferences.

Compétences

The person recruited must have a PhD in Applied Mathematics.
Competence in numerical computation is also required. A strong interest in environmental sciences is also expected. Writing skills, the ability to publish and promote research and to communicate in public, as well as the ability to work in a team are also expected.

Contexte de travail

This post-doctoral fellowship is part of the research project entitled "Stability and resilience of the Amazonian forest socio-ecosystem to climatic and anthropogenic disturbances". This project is supported by the Institute of Mathematics for the Planet Earth for the period 2023-2025. The person recruited will be attached to the Laboratoire des Sciences du Numérique of Nantes (UMR 6004) and will work in collaboration with the members of the project, distributed in particular to the Laboratoire de Mathématiques Appliquées of Poitiers (UMR 7348) and to the Littoral-Environment-Remote Sensing-Geomatics laboratory of Nantes (UMR 6554).

Contraintes et risques

The recruited person will have to show his/her involvement in the activity of the research project. The travel of the recruited person for conferences will be covered by the research project budget.
