Job Description

Missions

The successful candidate will contribute to the development of a new generation of 3D-printed biomimetic materials designed to model the human intestine in vitro, as part of the BAM-INT project.
The project aims to develop three-dimensional scaffolds that reproduce the extracellular environment of the intestine in order to improve preclinical models for drug absorption studies, toxicity testing and cell–matrix interaction research.
The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to the design and optimization of biomaterials, their biological characterization and the functional validation of the developed models. The successful candidate will also participate in data analysis, dissemination of research results through scientific publications and conferences, and technology transfer activities.

Activity

Design and fabricate three-dimensional scaffolds using FDM 3D printing for cell culture applications.
Develop and optimize biomimetic materials with controlled mechanical and biochemical properties.
Functionalize scaffolds with extracellular matrix components and growth factors.
Perform 2D and 3D cell culture experiments using intestinal cell lines and organoid models.
Conduct cell biology, immunofluorescence and microscopy experiments to evaluate epithelial polarization, differentiation and barrier function.
Perform functional assays including permeability measurements, transporter activity analyses and transcriptomic studies.
Analyze, interpret and disseminate experimental results.
Contribute to the preparation of scientific publications, project reports and presentations at national and international conferences.
Participate in the supervision of Master's students and interns when appropriate.
It is allowed one day of home office per week (flexible)

Your Profil

Skills

Knowledge
PhD in Biomaterials, Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering, Materials Science or a closely related field.
Strong background in biomaterials, tissue engineering or cell–matrix interactions.
Knowledge of cell culture and cell biology.
Good understanding of biological imaging techniques and quantitative data analysis.
Technical Skills
Experience in the design and fabrication of biomaterials.
Hands-on experience with 3D printing (preferably FDM or related technologies) applied to biomaterials or biofabrication.
Experience in mammalian cell culture.
Experience with 3D cell culture, organoids or tissue engineering will be considered a strong advantage.
Experience with image analysis software (ImageJ/Fiji) and scientific computing tools (Python, R or equivalent) will be appreciated.
Good command of spoken and written scientific English.
Personal Skills
Ability to work independently with a high level of scientific rigor.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Scientific curiosity and initiative.
Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary research environment.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Your Work Environment

The position is based at the SyMMES Laboratory (CNRS UMR 5819 – CEA – Université Grenoble Alpes) in Grenoble, within the CIBEST research team.
The successful candidate will join a team internationally recognized for its expertise in toxicology, intestinal biology and organoid models. Starting in October 2026, the team will develop a new research axis dedicated to biomimetic materials for advanced tissue models. The recruited postdoctoral researcher will play a key role in establishing this new activity by bringing expertise in biomaterials and 3D printing.

The BAM-INT project is highly interdisciplinary, at the interface of materials science, biomedical engineering, cell biology and toxicology. The successful candidate will benefit from access to state-of-the-art facilities for additive manufacturing, cell culture, microscopy and biomaterial characterization, as well as a network of national and international collaborators. It is allowed one day of home office per week (flexible)

Constraints and risks

The position mainly involves experimental laboratory work, including cell culture, biomaterial fabrication, microscopy and 3D printing.
There are no specific constraints associated with the position beyond compliance with standard laboratory safety procedures applicable to biological and chemical research laboratories.
