Missions
Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) are targeted for critical aeronautical engine turbine components. Surface coatings are essential to protect these materials from harsh operational environments, serving dual Environmental Barrier Coating (EBC) and Thermal Barrier Coating (TBC) functions.
Under multiphysics loading (thermal, mechanical, oxidation), CMC/EBC systems experience degradation mechanisms that compromise protection efficiency and reduce component lifetime.
An initial multiphysical modeling approach was developed at LCTS during a recent doctoral research project (https://theses.fr/s346508), characterizing oxidation diffusion/reaction mechanisms and associated morphological modifications. Preliminary results show promise while highlighting areas requiring further development for a comprehensive validated model.
The objectives of this work are:
- Finalize modeling approach for EBC-coated CMC lifetime prediction, emphasizing oxidation-mechanical property coupling
- Validate approach through experimental and computational comparative analyses
- Facilitate technology transfer to industrial research partner
Activités
- Models and tools developed during the thesis (AFEM elements, Abaqus UEL)
- Integration of creep laws and damage mechanisms
- Numerical tests and validation of developed models
- If necessary, extending current models concerning diffusion mechanisms
- Verifying model robustness with respect to numerical parameters, mesh sensitivity, ...
- Participating in academic valorization and transfer to industrial partner
Compétences
- Non-linear material mechanics and physico-chemistry
- Finite element simulation (Abaqus)
- Programming (Python/C++)
Contexte de travail
