Missions
The candidate will join LP2i's IRIBIO team to contribute to the development and use of Geant4 (https://geant4.org) and its very low-energy extension Geant4-DNA (https://geant4-dna.org) for the mechanistic simulation of the biological effects of ionizing radiation at the DNA scale.
Activities
The candidate will be involved in:
- The development and use of new physical models describing the track structures of electrons and ions in various materials, including liquid water, the main constituent of the biological environment;
- Studying the impact of these models on the simulation of water radiolysis;
- The macroscopic-microscopic combination of multi-scale simulations in a variety of radiative environments, including the prediction of early damage;
- Experimental validation of microscopic simulations by participating in irradiation experiments on biological targets on LP2i's AITNA/AIFIRA platform.
Skills
- Knowledge of physical interactions between elementary particles and matter
- Monte Carlo simulation methods
- Knowledge of Geant4
- C++, python
Work Context
The candidate will work in an interdisciplinary environment, bringing together physicists, chemists, biologists and computer scientists (within the IRIBIO team and the LP2i IT department), and internationally via the team's various international collaborations (mainly CERN/Switzerland, U. Wollongong/Australia, U. Yonsei & SNU/South Korea, U. Ioannina/Greece, AIST/Japan, Vinca I./Serbia). He/she will have the opportunity to develop codes that will be integrated into the open Geant4 toolkit, ensuring their visibility and availability on a large scale. This work will be part of the international Geant4 collaboration. The candidate will also have the opportunity to publish and present his/her work at major conferences in the field.
The position is located in a sector under the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST), and therefore requires, in accordance with the regulations, that your arrival is authorized by the competent authority of the MESR.
Constraints and risks
No constraints. Possibility of participating in irradiation experiments on AITNA/AIFIRA.
