The post-doctoral fellow will participate in the commissioning of the PIPERADE set-up and help to continue the installation of the final version of the WISArD set-up.
Mass measurement schemes as well as different mass separation methods will be tested with PIPERADE. In particular, the first trap of PIPERADE being larger than usual so as to counter space charge effects, mass separation techniques will be tested with a large number of ions. Higher-resolution methods with fewer ions in the second trap will also be investigated.
At WISArD, the new set-up has to be installed and prepared for a data taking before the end of the year. The commissioning and optimisation of this set-up is on the agenda.
The fellow will integrate the Exotic Nuclei group of CENBG and will also be given the opportunity to participate in experiments that the group carries out at various other facilities (GANIL, JYFL, RIKEN…).
Candidates should have completed a PhD in Nuclear Physics or a related subject since less than 6 years. They are expected to have a good knowledge in experimental techniques, ion optics and ion optics simulation tools (e.g. SIMION), ion trapping and detection techniques, as well as scientific programming. They will work in a highly competitive international environment.
CENBG is involved in technical developments for the DESIR facility at different levels. PIPERADE (PIèges de Penning pour les Radioisotopes à DESIR), an ensemble of equipment consisting of a RFQ cooler-buncher and a double Penning-trap system is presently commissioned at CENBG.
WISArD is a set-up installed at ISOLDE to search for physics beyond the standard model of particle physics. The set-up is presently finalised for a data taking in late 2021.
