Job Description

Missions

The Transfer Engineer's primary mission is to actively contribute to the transfer of research to the socio-economic sector by establishing long-term, trust-based collaborations within the scope of the LPENSL (Laboratory of Physics at the ENS de Lyon).

The Physics Laboratory (LPENSL) is at the forefront of contemporary physics research and addresses fundamental and applied questions across a wide range of fields. One of its strengths lies in its highly transdisciplinary and collaborative research approach, which fosters strong interactions at the interface of various fields, including fundamental physics, the natural sciences, mathematics, engineering, computational sciences, and the life sciences. This spirit of collaboration enables the laboratory to tackle complex scientific challenges through a holistic and integrative approach, in which experimentalists, theorists, and numerical scientists work in synergy.

The laboratory's research strategy builds on this synergy to achieve breakthroughs in the complex fields of condensed matter physics, climate and fluid dynamics, information sciences, theoretical physics, quantum matter and systems, as well as the physics of life and active matter. The laboratory supports interdisciplinarity by fostering strong collaborations both internally and externally.

The Physics Laboratory currently maintains ties with companies through the creation of startups, industrial collaboration agreements, the provision of services, and licensed patents.

He or she will report directly to the laboratory's unit director and, functionally, to the DRE.

• External communication: Promote the laboratory's offerings in an engaging manner that is aligned with the needs of potential targets. • Customer relationship management: Build and maintain a relationship based on trust, from project identification through to completion, in collaboration with the Partnership and Commercialization Department (SPV) to finalize agreements.
• Use of operational tools: Document interactions, track opportunities, and evaluate progress.
• Continuing education: Participate in training programs organized by the DREI to develop skills. • Participation in the IT network: Attend coordination meetings organized by the DRE to share successes, areas of concern, and business opportunities.

Your Work Environment

Employer Background: The National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) is a public research organization (a public scientific and technological institution) under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation. It generates knowledge and puts it to work for society. With more than 33,000 employees and a presence throughout the country (1,200 laboratories employing 114,000 people), primarily in partnership with higher education and research institutions, the CNRS conducts research in all fields of knowledge (biological sciences, chemistry, ecology and the environment, humanities and social sciences, engineering and systems sciences, mathematics and their interactions, physics, information sciences and their interactions, nuclear and particle physics, and the sciences of the Universe). Working closely with the socio-economic sector, the CNRS operates nearly 150 public-private research structures (openlabs, joint laboratories, etc.). It has signed about twenty framework agreements with major industrial groups. With more than 5,800 patent families and 1,500 active licenses—two-thirds of which are held by startups spun off from its laboratories—the CNRS ensures the protection of research results from its laboratories and their transfer to the industrial sector, notably through its subsidiary, CNRS Innovation.

Work Context: Within the Deputy Directorate General for Innovation (DGD-I), the Directorate of Corporate Relations (DRE) is tasked with developing collaborations between CNRS laboratories and the socio-economic sector. The Technology Transfer Engineer (IT) plays a key role in this process, responsible for facilitating the transfer of research results to companies, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and mid-sized companies.
