Job Description
Missions
We are seeking a motivated and talented postdoctoral researcher to join our team at the Institut Européen des Membranes (IEM). The successful candidate will contribute to the AMSTOR project, which aims to develop functionalized hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) nanosheets for low-pressure hydrogen storage applications. This position involves close collaboration with academic and industrial partners to design innovative nanomaterials and optimize their performance.
Activity
Synthesis and Functionalization:
Develop and optimize exfoliation methods (mechanical, chemical, or liquid-phase) to produce high-quality h-BN nanosheets.
Functionalize h-BN nanosheets to enhance their hydrogen adsorption properties.
Collaborate with partners to scale up processes to an industrial level.
Characterization:
Perform physicochemical characterizations (Raman, FTIR, XPS, TEM, SEM, AFM, BET, DLS) to analyze the structural, morphological, and surface properties of h-BN nanosheets (both pristine and functionalized).
Map the distribution of functional groups and correlate it with reaction parameters (time, temperature, alkaline concentration).
Hydrogen Storage Testing:
Conduct hydrogen adsorption/desorption studies using dedicated equipment.
Evaluate cyclic stability and material performance under real operating conditions.
Collaboration and Reporting:
Work closely with academic and industrial partners to interpret experimental results and optimize material design.
Contribute to the writing of scientific publications, patents, and technical reports.
Participate in project meetings, workshops, and conferences to disseminate results.
Your Profil
Skills
PhD in chemistry, materials science, nanotechnology, or a related field.
Proven experience in:
The synthesis and functionalization of 2D nanomaterials (graphene, h-BN, MOFs, etc.).
Characterization techniques: Raman, FTIR, XPS, TEM/SEM, AFM, BET, DLS.
Hydrogen storage testing (adsorption isotherms, cyclic stability tests) is a strong asset.
Non-aqueous chemistry (glovebox, inert atmosphere) is highly desirable.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to optimize synthesis and characterization protocols.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary (academic/industrial) team.
Fluency in English (written and spoken); French is a plus but not mandatory.
Excellent scientific writing skills for the preparation of publications, technical reports, and patents.
Your Work Environment
The position is based at the Institut Européen des Membranes (IEM), a joint research unit affiliated with the CNRS, the Université de Montpellier, and the ENSCM.
IEM is a leading institute in membrane science, nanotechnology, and energy-related materials, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for synthesis and characterization.
The successful candidate will collaborate with academic partners, including the Laboratoire SINERGIES at the Université de Franche-Comté, as well as with the industrial partner CARBON WATERS.
The project is funded by the Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR).
