Job Description

Missions

Redox photocatalysis based on organic photocatalysts (PC) is thriving, particularly using PCs of the cyanoarene family (e.g. 4CzIPN). Following photoexcitation of PC and reductive quenching of *PC by a sacrificial electron donor, PC• — is photoexcited to populate *PC• —, a strongly reducing species able to reduce unactivated substrates such as chlorobenzene. Dehalogenation of aromatic compounds indeed presents significant industrial and environmental challenges and issues.
In this context, the postdoc (M/F) will model the processes taking place in this type of chemistry. This project is based on the study of the topology of potential energy surfaces in the excited states (static electronic structure calculations), in connection with the reactivity (dynamic calculations).

Activity

- quantum chemistry calculations (static and dynamic)
- literature related to the topic
- communication of the results (group and lab seminars, conferences, publications)
- autonomy is expected across all tasks, related to the level of experience

Your Profil

Skills

- Ph.D. in the quantum chemistry of excited states, defended between 2019 and 2024 (2-7 years of experience)
- fluent English or French
- python programming skills are desirable

Your Work Environment

The Laboratoire de Chimie et Physique Quantiques (UMR5626 Université de Toulouse / CNRS) is located in Toulouse on the Paul Sabatier campus, within the physics institute FeRMI. It gathers about 40 people (among which about 20 staff members) working in different areas of basic and applied theoretical chemistry.
The postdoc will be hosted in the Theoretical and Computational Photochemistry group, that specializes in particular in the characterization of the topology of potential energy surfaces in the excited state, in connection with molecular photophysical properties and photoreactivity. The calculations will be run on the lab cluster or on the regional HPC (CALMIP).
