Job Description
Missions
The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for designing, synthesizing, and characterizing innovative covalent adaptable networks, based in particular on associative exchange mechanisms and, where possible, light-activated processes.
Activity
Select appropriate synthetic methodologies for monomers and materials to obtain the targeted structures.
Develop and optimize experimental procedures and protocols.
Prepare and maintain detailed experimental records, including laboratory notebooks, and write reports on synthesis results and their interpretation.
Prepare scientific publications arising from the research and present results at scientific conferences and meetings.
Transfer knowledge and expertise to other members of the project team.
Supervise undergraduate, master's, and PhD students.
Your Profil
Skills
Organic synthesis, polymer crosslinking, vitrimers, dynamic covalent materials, and photochemistry.
Technical Competencies
Synthetic chemistry applied to materials science.
Synthesis and characterization of dynamic and vitrimer materials.
Thermomechanical characterization techniques.
Scientific writing and presentation skills.
Professional Skills
Adherence to health and safety regulations.
Ability to work efficiently toward project milestones and deliverables.
Team-oriented mindset and supervisory skills.
Your Work Environment
This project is part of the 2026 EXPLORE call for proposals of CNRS Chemistry, under the theme “New Frontiers in Materials Chemistry.” It proposes an innovative approach to address a major scientific challenge associated with vitrimers, namely their limited creep resistance, by introducing a photo-activatable radical-based dynamic mechanism. This strategy aims to provide unprecedented spatiotemporal control over chemical exchange processes within the material.
Constraints and risks
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher holding a PhD in organic chemistry and/or polymer chemistry. Expertise in dynamic materials or vitrimer systems would be considered a strong asset. The successful candidate should demonstrate strong teamwork skills and possess a good command of written and spoken English. The anticipated starting date is September 1, 2026.
