Job Description

Missions

How does multiple scattering influence the information accessible through optical measurements? This theoretical postdoctoral project aims to investigate the links between wave propagation in complex media and the precision of parameter estimation. It will combine multiple scattering theory, coupled dipole models, and statistical estimation theory.
The work will rely on coupled dipole models to describe multiple scattering and interactions between the constituents of the medium. Fisher information will provide a framework for analysing the limits of estimation precision, building on previous work linking wave control and accessible information.

Activity

The work will combine:
- the development of theoretical models of multiple scattering based on the coupled dipole approach;
- the analysis of Fisher information and the associated limits on estimation precision;
- numerical simulations of wave propagation in complex media.

Your Profil

Skills

Applicants must hold a PhD in physics, engineering, or a related field. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas: optics/photonics, wave theory in complex media, wavefront shaping, and information theory. Applicants with theoretical or computational backgrounds are welcome.

Your Work Environment

Grenoble is a vibrant scientific city with a rich research ecosystem that includes Université Grenoble Alpes, CNRS, CEA, ESRF, and numerous industrial companies. The city also offers an excellent quality of life, with immediate access to the Alps.
The project will be hosted at the Laboratoire Interdisciplinaire de Physique (LIPhy), an interdisciplinary research laboratory recognised for its work in optics, wave physics, and complex systems. Computing servers are available for the project. The successful candidate will join an international research team offering numerous opportunities to collaborate with experimentalists and theorists working on wave propagation in complex media.
