Missions

A six-month post-doctoral position is open at LIPhy as part of the ANR project TEMMEX, Theoretical & ExperiMental spectroscopic Methods for EXtreme conditions: in depth investigation of spectral signatures of small hydrocarbons and radicals, recently funded by the Agence Nationale de la Recherche . The expected mission at LIPhy is the analysis of ethylene spectra recently recorded by Fourier Transform spectroscopy in the near infrared at four temperatures

Activities

The tasks to be carried out will be the following:
- systematic construction of the list of absorption lines at each temperature
- derivation of the values ​​of the energies of the lower levels of the transitions from the variation of the line intensities with temperature,
- rovibrational assignments
- development of effective Hamiltonians for spectra modelling

Skills

-The skills expected are a good understanding of high-resolution molecular spectroscopy, a good knowledge of software for analysing spectra and a strong investment to systematically and rigorously construct lists of absorption lines.

Work Context

The project will take place at the LIPhy laboratory of the University of Grenoble Alpes associated with CNRS (UMR5588) within the LAME team (Laser Molecules and Environment) including around fifteen people. The post doc will be funded by the ANR project TEMMEX which was recently supported by the National Research Agency for the period 2022-2024. This is a Franco-Russian project at the frontier between molecular spectroscopy and electronic structure calculations.

improve our understanding of low-density hot gaseous media (shock layers, plasmas, atmospheres of exoplanets and cold stars), where non-equilibrium processes take place. Ethylene is one of the target molecules. To do this, spectra of ethylene at various temperatures (200-300 K) were recorded by Fourier transform spectroscopy. Their analysis, which is the subject of this post doc, will be done in collaboration with the GSMA, which is the coordinator of the TEMMEX project.

Constraints and risks

The main risk is linked to the quantity of data to be analysed because the spectrum of ethylene is very dense. On the modelling side, difficulties are to be expected due to the number of vibrational modes interacting in ethylene
