The Megha-Tropiques mission (CNES/ISRO) is operating in space for more than 7 years and is acquiring unique observations of the water cyle in the tropics. One of the scientific objectives of the mission aims at a better understanding of the life cycle of tropical systems.

Previous work in our group has allowed to design innovative methodologies to merge the data from the Megha-Tropiques radiometers with geostationary meteorological satellites observations. This approach lies on a cloud systems tracking code and some composite methology and enables the documentation of the radiatives, microphysics and precipitating characteristics of the systems all along the evolutino of the storm.

After finalizing some aspects on the radiation budget of the storms , we are now embarking in characterising the precipitation of the systems.

And we are seeking a research engineer to help us with this project..


The hired person will be on one hand, in direct contact with the project and its management and on the other, will contribute to the writing of scientific articles.

The activities of the engineer will concern the execution, improvements and development of research code and the design of de diagnostics related to the life cycle of tropical convection.


PhD in Environnement Sciences or Engineering diploma. An experience with satellite observation data is a plus.

Robust background in engineering.
Good level in computer sciences.
Programming with IDL, Fortran or C.
Work under Linux environnement.
Data format: HDF, Netcdf.

Work Context

The position is located at the LEGOS laboratory in l'Observatoire Midi Pyrénées in Toulouse.
The selected person will work in a small research group and will interact with other research engineers phd students and CNRS researchers.

This position requires to participate to the meetins of the Megha-Tropiques mission in France as well as participation to international conferences.
