Job Description

Missions

Conduct research on the cycles of trace elements and isotopes in the ocean by analyzing natural samples, specifically by studying iron isotopes.

Activity

Main Activities
- Preparation of marine samples in a cleanroom. Preconcentration, purification, ultra-clean chemistry
- Measurements using a plasma-source mass spectrometer, including multi-collection
- Complex data processing using spreadsheets
- Interpretation of results within a multidisciplinary oceanographic context (physical and biogeochemical)
- Scientific dissemination through participation in conferences and writing articles.

Secondary Activities
- Assisting with the management of the LEGOS cleanroom laboratory
- Assisting with student supervision
- Participating in the ANR GEOMOBS project, which involves a coupled in situ/modeling approach to studying trace element and isotope cycles in the ocean.

Skills

Technical Skills
- Chemical preparation of marine samples in ultra-clean conditions (clean room), proficiency
- Multi-collection inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (MC-ICPMS), good level
- Advanced Excel (macros), proficiency

Knowledge
- Oceanography

- Trace element and isotope cycles
- English

Your Work Environment

The Laboratory for Space Geophysics and Oceanography (LEGOS) is a joint research unit of CNES, CNRS-INSU, IRD, and UT, comprising 160 staff members. LEGOS conducts multidisciplinary research on the global environmental system, drawing on ocean physics, marine geochemistry and biogeochemistry, hydrology, and glaciology. LEGOS is heavily involved in academic training with the University of Toulouse and in research-based training in France and internationally. The TIM (Toulouse Marine Isotope) team specializes in the study of trace elements and isotopes in the ocean.

Constraints and risks

Shift work and occasional night shifts may be required.
Participation in oceanic cruises may be required.
