Missions

CO2 emissions from cement production account for about 7% of global CO2 emissions. All plausible scenarios for achieving net zero emissions by 2050 include carbon capture, storage and use (CCUS).
Among the various CCUS options, ex-situ mineral carbonation from silicate waste offers the possibility of simultaneously sequestering CO2 and producing reactive materials that can be used to replace cement. However, many scientific and technical barriers must be lifted, especially for magnesium silicates which require higher carbonation temperatures and CO2 pressures. As part of the PEPR SPLEEN (decarbonisation of industry), the person recruited will integrate the CARBIOCEM project (2025-2029) at the Laboratoire Géosciences Environnement Toulouse and will be responsible for abiotic carbonation experiments on industrial by-products (EAF, ultramafic slags,...)

Activités

Within the framework of one of the WPs of this CARBIOCEM project, experiments on dissolution/leaching and carbonation of selected industrial by-products as well as pure minerals synthesized will be carried out at the GET in reactors under different initial conditions (pH, T, pCO2, L/S and solution composition). Different analytical techniques (ICP-OES, ICP-MS, atomic absorption and alkalinity) and characterization (QXRD, TGA, ...

Compétences

Degree required: PhD in environmental/materials science, (bio)geochemistry, environmental chemistry
Scientific skills:
- Experience in experimental laboratory geochemistry,
- handling of CO2 pressure reactors and temperatures up to 200°C.
- Knowledge of analytical techniques (ICPMS, ICPOES, Atomic Absorption) and characterization (IR, Raman, XRD, MEB, SEM, NMR) and speciation calculation software type PHREEQC.
- a strong motivation to join a multidisciplinary team while being autonomous and supervising M2 students and doctoral students
- Good written and oral communication skills in both French and English

Contexte de travail

Geosciences Environnement Toulouse (GET) is a multidisciplinary and inter-disciplinary research laboratory in Earth and Environment Sciences, including many disciplines of the Earth and Environment Sciences (geology, geochemistry, geophysics, geodesy, hydrology, pedology), complemented by approaches of geography and sociology. The person recruited will join the GEOEXP team, a leading group in experimental geochemistry and thermodynamic and kinetic data acquisition. He/She will participate in the meetings of progress of the CARBIOCEM project and writing reports and publications.

Le poste se situe dans un secteur relevant de la protection du potentiel scientifique et technique (PPST), et nécessite donc, conformément à la réglementation, que votre arrivée soit autorisée par l'autorité compétente du MESR.

Contraintes et risques

Working with HP/HT reactors will require safety and use training upon arrival at the laboratory
