Job Description

Missions

The research engineer will primarily conduct laboratory analyses, data processing, and data interpretation within a paleoecological framework

Activity

Implement protocols for the preparation of sediment samples
Quantify micro- and macro-charcoal (counting, morphometry, classification)
Establish and optimize analytical protocols
Ensure data traceability, archiving, and quality control
Prepare datasets for statistical analyses
Develop and apply data-processing scripts (R and Python appreciated)

Your Profil

Skills

Knowledge
Strong knowledge of sedimentary charcoal analysis methods
Understanding of fire regime and paleofire concepts
Knowledge of statistical approaches applied to paleoecological time series
Familiarity with FAIR data management standards

Technical Skills
Implement charcoal quantification protocols
Produce robust paleoecological time series
Process and analyze data using R (specialized packages appreciated: CharAnalysis, Rioja, etc.)
Produce scientific visualizations
Write technical reports and documentation

Autonomy and initiative
Critical thinking and analytical capacity
Ability to work collaboratively
Strong organizational skills and reliability

Your Work Environment

The position is funded through the FIRE-LANDES project, which aims to reconstruct past fire regimes in the Landes de Gascogne forest using sedimentary archives.
The project is primarily based on the analysis of quantitative sedimentary charcoal records and their integration with paleoenvironmental and climatic indicators.
The successful candidate will join the ENEX team, under the supervision of Adam A. Ali, and will work in close collaboration with the project partners.
