Job Description

Missions

The project for which this recruitment is being carried out aims to quantify the level of noise exposure in several hospital departments at Toulouse University Hospital (operating theatres, the adult intensive care unit, etc.), then to assess the impact of this noise on the hearing and mental health of staff, and to screen for undiagnosed hearing loss before proposing ergonomic solutions to improve the acoustic conditions of the working environment. The role of the contract researcher will be to take responsibility for audiological and neurocognitive assessment projects involving hospital healthcare staff experiencing hearing difficulties. They will be required to collect audiological data (conventional audiometry, speech-in-noise testing) and otoneurological data (OAE, EcoG, MEMR, etc.) as well as neurophysiological data (EEG), supplemented by tools developed jointly with Cerco to assess spatial hearing (Matrix and virtual reality tools) and an evaluation of neurocognitive functions (working memory, flexible attention, etc.) using tests commonly employed in the literature (CANTAB, MoCA, etc.).
All behavioural and electrophysiological data will be analysed in relation to the roles and occupational exposures of hospital staff

Activity

Manage projects (estimating, planning, monitoring) relating to the assessment of hospital staff
- o Carry out and analyse neuro-audiological, neurophysiological and neuro-cognitive assessments
o Develop and adapt software using MATLAB to extend assessments to other areas of functional investigation and finalise data analysis tools

Your Profil

Skills

Expertise in the fields of auditory neuroscience and psychoacoustics
- Proven experience in project management
- Expertise in programming languages: R Studio, MATLAB, Python
- Proficiency in the development and implementation of neurophysiological recording tools (EEG, EcoG, etc.)
- Proven experience of working with clinical populations
- Successful experience in a research laboratory
- Good working knowledge of technical and scientific English (spoken and written)
- Good working knowledge of drafting and updating functional and technical documentation.

Your Work Environment

The Brain and Cognition Research Centre (CerCo) is a joint CNRS/University of Toulouse (EPE) unit. CerCo's scientific objectives focus on the study of different sensory modalities and their integration, cognitive functions such as memory and object recognition, as well as consciousness and mental states. This research has several distinctive features: it employs a parallel approach involving human and non-human primates, patients and machines; it is multi-level (neurons, neuronal populations, structural networks, integrated organisms); and it draws on a wide range of methodological approaches spanning anatomy, physiology, integrative and cognitive neuroscience, neuropsychology, and computational and theoretical neuroscience. CerCo brings together more than thirty researchers, around forty PhD students and postdoctoral researchers, as well as a technical team.
The fixed-term contract is for a full-time postdoctoral research position to carry out research and design work. The successful candidate will be based at the CerCo UMR 5549 laboratory in Toulouse, within the SLAM team and, more specifically, in the hearing group. The hearing group's research focuses largely on the neural mechanisms of hearing loss and their impact on patients' cognition and quality of life.
