Missions

We are looking for a motivated post-doctoral researcher to work with us on an ANR-funded project (FLOW-sens) aimed at better understanding the role of thalamo-cortical brain oscillations in perception with a comparative, cross-species (animal – human) component.

Activities

The selected candidate will establish a non-human primate (NHP) model of scalp EEG signals related to perception, compare it to human EEG signals, and combine these scalp with intracranial (thalamic) recordings in the NHPs for unravelling thalamocortical circuits in perception. Activities will involve setting-up the experiments, animal training, acquisition and processing of data, passing on of skills and dissemination of results (presentation at conferences, paper writing).

Skills

The applicant will hold a PhD in neurosciences or related field, and a qualification and experience in non-human primate experimentation. Experience with recording of neural activity is required and with electrophysiology is a plus.

Competences and abilities
• Advanced knowledge in neurosciences and/or cognitive psychology and/or cognitive sciences
• Experience in working with and training of non-human primates.
• Excellent programming skills (R, matlab, etc).
• Knowledge of legal and ethics frameworks
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
• Ability to work creatively and diligently with little supervision
• Demonstrated skills in publishing scientific findings
• English proficiency
• Excellent interpersonal skills

Work Context

This is a full time position. The recruited person will work on the project FLOW-sens, funded by ANR. This is a single-team project (PRME) involving several senior CNRS researchers providing research support and supervision (all of the same unit). The research will be conducted at the Centre de Recherche Cerveau & Cognition (CerCo), in Toulouse, which has more than 30 permanent researchers and ~100 members, is equipped with cross-species human-NHP facilities and provides a vibrant scientific and intellectual environment.

Please write to the project leads Gregor Thut (gregor.thut@cnrs.fr) or Celine Cappe (celine.cappe@cnrs.fr) for more information on the position or environment if needed.

Constraints and risks

The position will require handling and training of animals. Beyond training and experimentation, our animal facility is run by an external company.

We have salary funding for at least 2.5 years, depending on the prior research experience of the candidate.
