Missions

The candidate will work on the research project focusing on Deltaviruses, a family of viruses recently discovered in several animal species, including the Hepatitis Delta Virus (HDV) that infects humans. This project, funded by the European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant, aims to understand the molecular evolution and adaptability of Deltaviruses to new hosts. The host laboratory benefits from a network of local, national, and international collaborators.

Activities

- Production of viruses and infection in an L3 containment laboratory
- High-throughput sequencing and bioinformatics analysis
- Microscopy (RNA and proteins)
- CRISPR genetic screening
- Classical molecular and cellular biology techniques: flow cytometry, cloning, RT-qPCR, western blot, etc.

Skills

General, theoretical, and disciplinary knowledge:
• Solid experience in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, and Virology. Excellent technical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Language skills: fluent in spoken and written English.
Operational know-how:
• Motivation, dynamism, and ability to work both in a team and independently.
• Ability to supervise interns and PhD students.
• Scientific article analysis, scientific monitoring, and writing of scientific research articles.

Work Context

The Institute of Molecular Genetics of Montpellier (IGMM) is a joint research unit of the CNRS and the University of Montpellier, comprising 200 people distributed across 18 research groups, 9 common services (including 5 shared with other units on the CNRS campus), and 9 technological and scientific platforms. The IGMM is a multidisciplinary institute whose work has a fundamental and applied international impact in molecular and cellular biology (www.igmm.cnrs.fr). The postdoctoral researcher will be assigned to a team that was created within the IGMM in 2021, focusing on the theme "RNA Viruses and Host Factors," led by Karim MAJZOUB.

Constraints and risks

-The candidate will work in L2 and L3 containment laboratories.
- It will be necessary to come on some weekends or during holidays to maintain animal cell cultures and perform real-time microscopy experiments.
