11-month fixed-term contract (post-doctorate) based in Grenoble at the Soils, Solids, Structures, Risks laboratory and in close collaboration with the Forest, Cellulose, Wood-Construction and Furniture Technological Institute (FCBA) and the Paper Technical Center (CTP) ) where regular interventions are planned.
◦ Scientific domain
The production and use of organic and / or geo-sourced building materials are paths increasingly followed in the building sector, in order to meet constraints, including legislative ones, on reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. These bio / geo-sourced materials also have interesting properties to answer reflections on "Housing and health" in order to prevent industrial construction materials from being the source of health problems, as currently suspected for some commonly used (paints, concrete, insulating panels, ..). However, the production and marketing of these new bio / geo-sourced materials remain the work of small economic players / artisans and, like the beginnings of organic agricultural production, these uses remain rather reserved for a relatively wealthy clientele.
◦ Description of the research project
The TerraNova project, supported by the Carnot PolyNat Institute, brings together the Sols, Solides, Structures, Risques laboratory (3SR), the Paper Technical Center (CTP) and the FCBA Technological Institute in Grenoble, and aims to develop new materials and processes based on lignocellulosic earths and fibers, stable and resistant, capable of absorbing shocks and exhibiting interesting properties in acoustics, heat and humidity. For their manufacture, solutions suitable for industrial production must also be explored in order to allow their distribution on a large scale.
• Bibliographical analysis on earth-based construction materials
• Selection of raw materials
• Development of the method of shaping panels for construction, on a laboratory scale and with a view to industrial transfer
• Study of fiber-soil interactions
• Evaluation of the role of the composition of the earth / fiber mixture on the final properties of the product (mechanical, hygroscopic, insulation, etc.).
The candidate, holder of a PhD in materials, process engineering or mechanics, will have skills in material shaping, a fondness for experimental work and teamwork. Knowledge of cellulosic materials will be a appreciate.
The post-doctoral fellow will be based in Grenoble at the Soils, Solids, Structures, Risks laboratory and will operate very regularly at the CTP and FCBA.
