Missions
The goal of the SLICES-FR project is to contribute to the competitiveness in advanced communication systems and technologies that are at the heart of most strategic areas of our societies. SLICES-FR covers a diversity of communication systems and networks ranging from the Internet of Things to Cloud Computing. The platform can therefore be used to investigate all scientific challenges of distributed computing (data centers, cloud computing, edge and fog computing) and networks (IoT, Internet, wireless networks, and cellular networks (5G/6G/etc.)).
SLICES-FR will deploy and operate a large-scale, highly flexible infrastructure that provides controlled and uniform access to heterogeneous and varied cutting-edge technologies. It will meet the need to support fundamental research in these areas where access to such instruments is essential for experimentation. Furthermore, it aims to create synergies between academic, industrial, and commercial actors in order to reduce the time-to-market of innovations, whether they are fundamental or more application-oriented contributions.
In this context, we aim to bring together the two Toulouse-based instances of FIT IoT-LAB and Grid'5000, thus providing a cross-platform infrastructure that covers the entire chain, from the sensor to data processing, through networks and storage.
The platforms are complementary and each brings its own advantages:
1) FIT IoT-LAB provides sensors, object localization capabilities, diverse wireless technologies, and the ability to totally reconfigure the network protocols;
2) Grid'5000 provides a large-scale experimentation infrastructure that is fully reconfigurable, where the experimenter has the possibility to test, “break,” and reinstall systems, networks, and storage.
Activités
- Improving the existing infrastructure to enhance its robustness and reliability.
- Participating in operational management within the SLICES-FR engineering team.
- Developing software gateways to unify them within the future SLICES-FR platform.
- Increasing the capacities (supporting new hardware…) of existing platforms.
- Participating in the design and development of these evolutions.
- Daily support for users in their day to day interaction with the platforms. This support will be facilitated by the creation of platform usage tutorials and the presentation of scientific use cases.
- Ensuring the visibility and promotion of the platforms, making them known internally (research departments, thematic axes…) as well as externally (other laboratories on the Toulouse site).
Compétences
- Good programming (e.g., Python, C, Ruby, …) and interfacing skills (REST APIs, …)
- Good system administration (GNU/Linux - Debian, Puppet or equivalent, virtualization, Docker, …) and networking skills (VLAN, routing, filtering)
- Good knowledge of best practices and tools in a DevOps environment (version control with Git, continuous integration, testing)
- Knowledge of programming methods (compilation chain and flashing) for embedded targets
- Beginner or first experience accepted
Contexte de travail
The engineer will be recruited at IRIT, the largest computer science laboratory in Toulouse, in the Architecture Systems Networks (ASR) department, and the SEPIA and RMESS teams. The engineer will be required to travel between the platforms on the UT (Rangueil campus) and IUT Blagnac sites.
The engineer will also participate in the missions of SLICES-FR's technical team .
