-With the emergence of Big Data, the focus of companies' interest is shifting towards data and the value they can generate. This offers them development prospects and enable them to reinvent their business model. However, because of the exponential increase in volumes of data, which are usually heterogeneous and come from various sources, it becomes difficult for companies to take advantage of these data. Among all the difficulties that Big Data faces, the issues of data reliability and trustworthiness (between the consumer and the company as well as between companies) are paramount, as well as trusting Information Technologies that are compliant to all regulations that are been proposed in the European Union, the GDPR being just its most prominent example.

For these reasons, a growing number of research studies are carried out to explore this complex universe and to propose new solutions to improve compliance, reliability, and trust. This concerns each stage of the data life cycle as well as their storage, sharing, and protection. The main goal of this postdoctoral position is therefore to investigate, from a technical and legal point of view, innovative solutions to increase the gain that institutions can derive from data and make them navigate a trustworthy environment.


The work will be conducted in the framework of the projects carried out by the SIERA team at IRIT, including the H2020 Cybersec4Europe and LeADS - Legality Attentive Data Scientists, and DUCA – Data Usage Control for empowering digital sovereignty for All citizens. The recruited candidate will therefore participate in the supervision of the PhD students and in the management of the projects. For more information about the projects:


The candidate should have a PhD degree related to the subject, preferably in computer science. She/he should have proven diverse skills in cyber-security and Big Data. Some knowledge of law and/or sociology are desirable. The candidate must be proficient in English (read, speak, write).

Work Context

The Institut de Recherche en Informatique de Toulouse (IRIT) is one of the largest Mixed Research Units (UMR 5505) in France. It is also one of the pillars of research in Occitanie with its 600 members (permanent and non-permanent) and hundreds of external collaborators. Due to its multi-supervisory nature (CNRS, Toulouse Universities), its scientific impact and its interactions with other fields, the laboratory constitutes one of the structuring forces of the IT landscape and its applications in the digital world, both in regional and national level. Our unit has been able, through its cutting-edge work and its dynamics, to define its identity and acquire undeniable visibility, while positioning itself at the heart of changes in local structures, like the University of Toulouse, as well as the various mechanisms resulting from investments for the future (LabEx CIMI, IRT Saint-Exupéry, SAT TTT…).
