Missions
The post-doctoral fellow will work in the Interfaces Group of the Institut de Mécanique des Fluides de Toulouse. The work is part of the research programme on Boiling in Microgravity supported by the European and French space agencies (ESA and CNES). An Experimental set-up RUBI (Reference mUltiscale Boiling Investigation), has been launched on the International Space station in 2019. The goal of this experiment is to study the growth and detachment of isolated vapour bubbles on a heated surface in microgravity conditions 2022 https://doi.org/10.1016/j.applthermaleng.2021.117932. In this experiment, IMFT is responsible for the study of vapour bubble growth and detachment in a shear flow. The post-doctoral fellow will have to process the data.
Activities
He (she) will be in charge of processing the experimental data obtained during the flight mission between 2019 and 2021. He (she) will perform the process of the black and white high-speed images to follow the bubble growth and to determine the geometrical parameters. He (she) will also process the images of the Infrared camera to determine the wall temperature and heat flux distribution. He (she) will be contact with researchers of several foreign Universities (TU Darmstadt, University of Pisa, University Aix-Marseille, ENEA Roma, Université Libre de Bruxelles, Univrsity of Ljubljana…).
Skills
- The post-doctoral fellow:
- will have a PhD thesis in fluid mechanics,
- should have some knowledge on two-phase flows and thermodynamics
- should have an expertise on experimental techniques and signal/ image processing.
- should be able to use a commercial CFD code for fluid mechanics simulations
Work Context
The work will be performed at the Institut de Mécanique des Fluides de Toulouse, 2 avenue Camille Soula, Toulouse, in the Interfaces group, a research team of 30 peoples including 9 researchers/Professors, other post-doctoral fellows, PhD and Master students. The expertise of the team is based on experiments, theoretical modeling and direct numerical simulations. The post-doctoral fellow will work under the supervision of Catherine Colin, Professor at Toulouse INP and researcher in the Interfaces Group.
