Mathematical physics research.

Activities

Research on the quantum many-body problem.

The present project aims at solving some challenging mathematical questions in the theory of quantum many-body systems, with applications to condensed matter physics. We shall focus on topics that are at the frontier of current theoretical physics, in particular attack problems where strong correlations play the central role. Such important features as superfluid to insulator transitions, correlations carrying a topological structure, the emergence of exotic quasi-particles... are as of yet poorly understood at a satisfying level of mathematical rigor.

The applicant will carry theoretical research on such topics, in collaboration with the project supervisor (Nicolas Rougerie). Possible topics to start with are the effective mean-field description of almost bosonic extended anyons in the dilute limit, or the derivation of classical field theory models for positive temperature equilibria of the bosonic many-body problem.

Skills

PhD in mathematics or theoretical physics.
