The "dynamic modelling" Targeted Project aims to model and scenario subsurface resource needs and potentials by 2050.
The aim of the post-doctorate contract is to couple the following two models:
- Isterre has been developing a biophysical model (MATER: Multi-regional Assessment of Technologies, Energy and Raw materials) for 4 years, capable of linking the model to internal databases (Exiobase and Ecoinvent). This model can be used to calculate the development over time of transport, energy, urbanization and agrifood infrastructures from 1960 to 2060, and by country, according to changes in GDP/capita, or in per capita demand for transport, housing, food and services, or for exogenous energy scenarios. The energy and material requirements for manufacturing the products consumed in the country, as well as certain environmental impacts, are then estimated.
- POLES (Prospective Outlook on Long-term Energy Systems) is a partial-equilibrium simulation model of the global energy system to 2050, developed at the Grenoble Applied Economics Laboratory (GAEL). It is based on exogenous assumptions for demographic and economic trends, for each of the world's major countries or regions, but an endogenization of all variables characterizing energy consumption, transformation, production and prices. It features a high degree of technological disaggregation (e.g. fossil fuels, solar, wind, geothermal), and identifies technological trajectories with minimum cost for a given climate objective. It is a sectoral equilibrium model based on recursive simulation, whose dynamics are given, from the initial year and from year to year, by the lagged adjustments of supply and demand variables on the one hand, and prices on the other.
The job requires a good knowledge of both MATER and POLES models.
Experience of working with these two models is therefore a prerequisite for application.
Contexte de travail
The postdoctoral contract is for 18 months.
The person recruited will be based at the GAEL laboratory (Laboratoire d'Economie Appliquée de Grenoble (GAEL), a joint research unit between CNRS, INRAE, Université Grenoble Alpes and Grenoble INP with a staff of around 70. GAEL's research focuses on sustainable innovation and consumption, particularly in the energy and agro-industrial sectors. Research is organized into three areas: Consumption, Energy/Environment, and Innovation. The candidate will integrate the energy axis. Research conducted within GAEL's Energy/Environment department aims to understand and assess the impact of energy and climate policies. The team is developing high-level research in applied and academic economics, and enjoys a high profile at national, European and international levels.

Contraintes et risques
Travel to project meetings or to other laboratories involved in the project is envisaged, as is participation in conferences.
