Job Description

Missions

The aim of this project will be to develop and realize model experiments in order to identify failure criteria in polymeric materials.

Activity

The successful candidate will develop silicone-based model materials and an experimental set-up combining mechanical testing, conduct microscope observation, analyze the resulting data using pre-written Matlab codes, and write up the results obtained in the form of scientific articles for publication in international journals.

Your Profil

Skills

Candidates to this position must have a PhD in Materials Science, Physics, or
Mechanical Engineering, as well as a solid experience in coding, mechanical testing, microscopy, and polymer processing.

Your Work Environment

The successful candidate will join the Liquids and Interfaces team at the Institut Lumière Matière, a physics institute at the University of Lyon 1 in France, which has more than 320 staff members, including about 100 doctoral and postdoctoral students. The continuum between basic research, addressing major societal challenges, and innovation is at the heart of this unit's approach. The entire staff is committed to promoting excellence and ethical, responsible research. Its scientists explore six major thematic areas: Materials, Energy, Photonics, Soft Matter, Nanosciences, Optics and Ultrafast Dynamics, Theory and Modeling, Life Sciences, Health, and the Environment

The Liquids and Interfaces team (more than 20 faculty members, researchers, or permanent engineers, and more than 20 doctoral or postdoctoral students) focuses on soft matter and the properties of liquids and complex systems involving interfaces. Research focuses on the dynamics of these materials at various scales, from the nanoscale to the macroscopic scale, as well as on the coupling mechanisms between these different levels (micro-macro approach). The approach combines experimentation and theory, and we develop both new instruments and model systems.
