This 2-year postdoctoral project concerns the study of complex charged molecular systems (biomolecules) using XUV femto and attosecond pulses. The aim will be to understand the first instants of the dynamics following an energetic photo excitation by an ultrashort pulse, and the role played by the dynamics of holes, protons and energy relaxation. For this, pump-probe experiments will be carried out on an experimental device unique in the world.


Recent advances in ultrafast science make it possible to use ultrashort UVX pulses to probe matter on femto and attosecond time scales. At these time scales it is possible to probe the dynamics of charges, energy and structural changes following a process of photo excitation. The candidate will work on an experimental device unique in the world and on a new type of experiments combining the production of complex molecular ions, attosecond UVX pulse control and electron spectrometry.


The candidate must hold a thesis in physics and/or experimental chemistry. Skills are expected in one or more of the following areas: ultrafast optics, ultrafast dynamics, analytical chemistry, molecular physical-chemistry.

Work Context

The ILM is a laboratory located in Lyon whose activity is highly interdisciplinary. It dominates expertise at the highest international level in experience and theory, from optics to molecular physics, from materials to soft matter. The ILM's DYNAMO group is developing a leading activity for the study of molecular matter using new generation light sources. Since the emergence of attosecond sciences in the early 2000s, the group has contributed to the development of experiments applied to molecular systems.
