Job Description
Missions
The goal is to advance the modelling of microphase separation of living cells. In this recently discovered phenomenon (Carrère et al, Nature Communications 2023), living cells spontaneously organize into compact domains of finite size. Though the basic principle is identified, much remains to be understood about the underlying mechanisms, properties and implications.
Activity
As a postdoctoral researcher (M/F), you will develop the modelling of cell microphase separation. Using numerical simulations of a mesoscopic cell-based model, you will explore self-assembled morphologies and phase diagrams, as well as dynamic properties at the cellular and domain levels. Numerical work might be complemented with analytical approaches and toy models.
Your Profil
Skills
We are seeking highly motivated candidates (M/F) with a PhD in physics, soft matter, biophysics or applied mathematics. Strong programming skills and abilities in numerical work are essential. Mastery of symbolic computation tools would be a plus. Proficiency in English and good communication skills are expected. No background in biology is required.
Applications should include a detailed CV, a summary of past research, a short letter of motivation and contact details of at least two references. Informal inquiries are welcome (francois.detcheverry@univ-lyon1.fr). . Applications will be considered until the position is filled.
Your Work Environment
The research will take place at the Institute of Light and Matter (Lyon, France) within the “Liquid and Interfaces” and “Biophysics” teams, with strong activity in soft and active matter.
The Institut Lumière Matière (iLM) is a joint research unit of the CNRS and Université Claude Bernard Lyon. With a staff of 310 members, including one third of PhD students and postdoctoral researchers, iLM is a center of excellence in physics and chemistry in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region and enjoys international recognition for the quality of its research.
The postdoctoral researcher (M/F) will join a larger consortium funded by ANR project OCSYC. Interactions are expected with experimentalists from iLM and mathematicians from Brest.
