Job Description
Missions
Duties
• Study the nucleation and growth mechanisms of alumina clusters (pure and metal-doped) and carbon chains in supernova ejecta.
• Apply molecular dynamics (MD) methods to simulate the formation of alumina agglomerates.
• Use ab initio wave function methods to model the growth of carbon chains.
• Collaborate with astrochemists and observers to validate theoretical predictions.
Activity
This position will focus on modeling dust production in supernova explosions, a key process for understanding the chemical enrichment of the interstellar medium. It aims to study the early stages of oxygen- and carbon-rich dust formation in local and high-redshift supernovae using advanced theoretical chemistry methods.
Your Profil
Skills
Skills:
• Strong knowledge of theoretical chemistry methods (DFT, MD, ab initio).
• Experience with molecular modeling software (e.g., MOLPRO, DeMon2K).
• Interest in interdisciplinary research (chemistry/astrophysics interface).
• Proficiency in English (scientific communication); French is a plus.
Your Work Environment
• LUPM is a dynamic research unit covering astrophysics, astroparticles, particle physics, and cosmology.
• The candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Dahbia Talbi and interact with national/international collaborators from the ODUST consortium.
• Access to HPC resources (e.g., IDRIS) for large-scale simulations.
