Vapor leak scenarii and leak-rate through fractures of concrete confinement vessels widely remain difficult to predict in particular due to the fact that in real situations, two distinct phases (liquid water and unsaturated vapor) may co-exist within the fracture. In this context, a lot remains to be done to progress towards a better understanding of the flow regimes that are likely to occur and to investigate the flow-rate to pressure drop relationships for further correlation, through a transposition coefficient, to the equivalent leak rate during one-phase flow.
The project will be dedicated to an experimental work on two-phase flow in fractured materials The work will consist in the design of an experimental setup allowing the injection of a well-controlled air-vapor mixture through model fractures which aperture and faces topologies will be either controlled or obtained as a replica of a real concrete fracture.
The experimental program will include the analysis of the effect of pressures and temperatures at the entrance and exit of the fracture, temperature of the fracture walls and vapor composition at injection as well as the structural parameters of the fracture (facies, aperture). Experiments will also be carried out under single phase conditions to investigate the correlation of the pressure drop to leak-rate relationships in one- and two-phase configurations.
Experienced scientist with skills in experimental modeling and a good background in fluid mechanics and thermodynamics of moist air.
This project is part of the ANR program MACENA 2.0 involving many different partners (including EDF) with which strong interactions will take place. The research program will be carried out at I2M (UMR 5295) where the post-doc researcher will be integrated within the "porous media" team of department TREFLE.
