Missions
--The position is part of an Institut National du Cancer (INCa)-funded project to study the impact of chemotherapies on protein synthesis and tumor cell plasticity.
As part of the “Ribosome, Translation and Cancer” team at the Lyon Cancer Research Center, the engineer will work on optimizing specific translatomic techniques and adapting them to the single-cell scale.
Activities
The engineer will be in charge to:
- Perform cell biology experiments (cell culture, transfection, treatments, selections), molecular biology (protein extraction, western blot, RNA extraction, RT-qPCR, northern blot), and biochemistry (ribosome purification, polysome profiles).
- Regularly write up laboratory notebooks.
- Analyze results.
- Present and interpret results.
Specific activity or collective interest
Participate in the collective functioning of the laboratory (maintenance of equipment, management of consumables stocks, collective tasks).
Skills
Knowledge
- Theoretical knowledge of biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology
- Competence in cell biology techniques (cell culture, transfection, selection, fluorescence microscopy)
- Competence in biochemistry and molecular biology techniques (protein extraction, western blot, RNA extraction, RT-qPCR)
- Knowledge of ultracentrifugation and sucrose gradient fractionation techniques desirable
- Notions of bioinformatics analysis of large-scale biological data appreciated
- Knowledge of health and safety risks and regulations
- Knowledge of conditions of use, storage and disposal of chemicals
- Fluency in technical English

Work Context
The engineer will work at the Centre de Recherche en Cancérologie de Lyon (CRCL) located on the campus of the Centre Léon Bérard. The CRCL (directed by P Mehlen, www.crcl.fr) is an internationally renowned center dedicated to innovative oncology research. This research unit accredited by Inserm, CNRS, Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 and the Centre Léon Bérard comprises 24 teams and 12 technological platforms. The CRCL is dedicated to understanding the mechanisms of cancer and developing new therapeutic strategies, in an international scientific environment. The engineer will be integrated into the “Ribosome, Translation and Cancer” team of around 30 people, headed by Dr. Jean-Jacques Diaz. The team explores the role of protein synthesis and ribosomes in tumor pathology.
