Missions

The TERS_NORMAL's project, funded by the French National Research Agency, gathers the Institut Parisien de Chimie Moléculaire (Paris), the Chemistry Laboratory of the Ecole Normale Supérieur de Lyon and LEPMI in Grenoble. We aim at understanding the reaction mechanisms underlying the reactivity of electrocatalytic surfaces such as Pd@Pt and Pd@Au that resist CO poisoning. We will rely on model systems elaborated from the well-defined surfaces of Pt and Au single crystals. Their properties will first be evaluated by macroscopic kinetic experiments. Secondly, local measurements by Tip Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (TERS) will aim at detecting and quantifying CO and OH adsorbates at different potentials and positions on the substrate. To obtain a global vision, a theoretical chemistry approach that will take into account the specificities of the electrochemical interface will be implemented. It will allow to reconstruct and better interpret experimental spectra.

Activités

The post-doctoral researcher will mainly focus on surface preparation, electrochemical measurements and mechanistic investigations in Grenoble. He will be in charge of initial surface preparation (Pt(111) and Au(111)) by annealing (by flame or inductive oven), and Pd electrodeposition of different thicknesses. He will take advantage of LEPMI experience on single crystal surface preparation and modification, including quality check procedures. Then, he will perform kinetic measurements on prepared surfaces comprising CO adsorption & oxidative stripping, continuous CO and H2/CO mixtures oxidation on rotating disk electrode (RDE). Additionally, he will take part to in situ TERS measurements campaigns in Paris.

Compétences

We are looking for a highly motivated collaborator with experience (2 to 7 years) in electrocatalysis and/or surface science.
