Missions

The agent will provide scientific support for the validation, implementation and scientific exploitation of a camera for astronomy (called CAGIRE), before, during and after its installation at the focus of the Colibrí telescope, located at the National Astronomical Observatory in the Sierra de San Pedro Mártir in Mexico.

Activités

The agent will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Monitoring the calibration of the CAGIRE camera
- Follow the procedures for aligning the camera with the focus of the telescope
- Monitoring performance measurements, in particular concerning noise on the detector.
You will also be expected to contribute to the development of test plans, write test reports and present them to the team.
The agent will be required to travel to Mexico.

Compétences

- Understanding of the operation of CMOS detectors used in astronomy
- Expertise in the analysis of astrophysical images in the visible and/or near infrared range
- Fluency in English (read, spoken and written) and possibly Spanish
- Computer programming in Python and possibly Java
- Teamwork and autonomy

Contexte de travail

The candidate will work as part of the CAGIRE team at the Institut de Recherche en Astrophysique & Planétologie (IRAP) in Toulouse. The CAGIRE team consists of around ten technical, administrative and scientific staff. The contract period will include delivery of the instrument to Mexico, validation on the sky and the start of scientific exploitation. Good responsiveness and the ability to interact well with other members of the team will be important qualities during these dynamic phases of integrating the camera on the telescope.

Contraintes et risques

Position with specific constraints:
- 1 or 2 trips to Mexico are required
- Extended working hours (recoverable) may be implemented on rare occasions during certain test sequences.
