Job Description
Missions
The successful candidate will analyze the seismic imaging results generated as part of a recently completed doctoral dissertation: interpretation and writing of a research articles.
Activity
- Consolidation of the seismological analysis of receiver functions and noise correlations
- Thermo-compositional and tectonic interpretation of seismological results, including comparison with existing seismic tomography studies
- Preparation of one or more scientific articles
Your Profil
Skills
High level of specialization in imaging mantle discontinuities, combining:
- Modeling receiver functions and body waves in seismic noise based on thermal and compositional models of the mantle, using Perpl_X, as well as sea-state models (WaveWATCH3) via the Python package WMSAN (https://tomasetl.gricad-pages.univ-grenoble-alpes.fr/ ww3-source-maps/)
- Processing large volumes of data to calculate receiver functions
- Processing large volumes of data to extract Pv410p and Pv660p waves from seismic noise.
- English proficiency at the B2 level
- Team work
Your Work Environment
The candidate will work at ISTerre research laboratory, a joint research unit (UMR) with approximately 300 staff members, which is part of the Observatory of Universe Sciences (OSU) at the University of Grenoble Alpes (UGA), which is responsible for numerous national observation services.
The postdoc will work under the supervision of Helle Pedersen and Pierre Boué and will join the “Waves and Structures” team, which consists of about 40 researchers, faculty members, postdocs, and doctoral students, specializing in seismology, the study of seismic wave propagation in complex media, and the use of waves to characterize geophysical media and processes.
