Missions
The research engineer will join the Devices for Health and Environment group of the Lyon Institute of Nanotechnologies in the frame of a collaborative project on developing an immersive environment in virtual reality for chemical risks training.
She or he will have to develop new electronic devices for multisensoriality in virtual environments. More specifically, a wearable system for thermal stimulations on hands will simulate holding a hot object, while a remote system will simulate global temperature and heating in the environment (fire, etc.).
Additionally, those systems as well as other sensors and actuators developed during the project will have to be interfaced with the virtual reality engine. She or he will have to develop communication modules between the engine and the peripherals.
Activités
• Design and implementation of a wearable and wireless system for the thermal stimulation (hot / cold) of the hands.
• Design and implementation of a connected system in the room for thermal stimulation (hot / cold) of a body or part of a body in the room.
• Development of communication and control modules between the virtual reality engine and thermal stimulation systems, as well as communication with wearable, wireless sensors to collect physiological signals acquired during immersion in virtual environment.
Compétences
Engineer or PhD in embedded electronics and computer science with knowledge in:
- Design and implementation of embedded electronics
- C and C++ programming for microcontrollers
- Python and C# programming for communication between the virtual reality engine and external peripherals.
An experience of 3 years in the fields of electronics and computer science is recommended.
Contexte de travail
-She or he will work at INL premises on LyonTech La Doua campus together with members of the Device for Health and Environment group for the entire duration of the mission. A desk will be provided, and access will be granted to the electronics and assembly workshop of the building. An entire room within the experimental platform of INL (Living Lab) will be dedicated to the implementation and testing of the system, where virtual reality platform will be installed. She or he will also install and test the solution in partner's labs at Lyon or at Saint-Etienne.
