The aim of this research project is the development of porous silica-based materials containing stable organic radicals (TEMPO units) by sol-gel process. This project has already led to very promising results published in high impact journals (PNAS, ACIE, Nature Communications, Chem. sci.).
The first generation of materials allowed to obtain pure solutions of "hyperpolarised" tracers. These solutions could be used as contrast agents for in-vivo MRI experiments such as the real-time detection of cancers which are very difficult to visualize using conventional MRI techniques.
To reach this goal, new silica-based matrices must be developed to enable the prodcution of hyperpolarised tracers which hyperpolarisation state is maintained for several hours/days. Indeed, the hyperpolarised samples, to date, only have a very short lifetime (generally 1 minute). we are looking for a post-doctoral researcher to work on a new generation of materials to extend the lifetime of these 'hyperpolarised' MRI tracers to days. This project is at the interface between organic chemistry (synthesis of silylated organic precursors) and materials chemistry (sol-gel) and will involve the design, preparation, characterization and testing of new porous organic-inorganic materials.
This project is at the interface between organic and materials chemistry and will involve
- the design and preparation of new porous organic-inorganic materials containing TEMPO radicals within a porous silica matrix.
- the characterization of materials (nitrogen adsorption/desorption, IR, ESR, TEM...)
- assistance in the testing of materials in hyperpolarisation by DNP
The candidate will be expected to have the following skills :
- synthesis of silylated precursors,
- mastering the sol-gel process
- working under inert atmosphere (empty argon ramp/glove box)
- characterization of porous materials by nitrogen adsorption/desorption, IR (DRIFT), ESR, etc.
Skills in organic chemistry would be a plus.
The successful candidate will work in a highly interdisciplinary environment and will interact with chemists and physicists. He/she will be located in the C2P2 laboratory in the engineering school "CPE Lyon". This recruitment offer is linked to the funding of an ANR PRCE project (Hymag).
