Missions

The European project "H-CCAT" ("Solid Catalysts for Activation of Aromatic CH Bonds") aims to design efficient hybrid catalysts for CH/CX coupling reactions. The targeted catalysts have to show an improved stability, a better selectivity, and a metal leaching resistance if compared to more classical catalysts currently used for these reactions. These new catalysts will be obtained by immobilization of original organometallic complexes onto hybrid silica supports obtained by sol-gel process or grafting reactions. These supported catalysts will allow to prepare highly active pharmaceutical compounds that could be used in the treatment of diseases such as influenza, cancer or AIDS.

Activities

The successful candidate will be in charge of preparing, characterizing and testing the new solid catalysts.

Skills

A strong experience in organometallic chemistry and catalysis (homogeneous or heterogeneous) is required. Skills in surface chemistry or sol-gel process would be a plus.
A good command of English is required.

Within the laboratory of Chemistry, Catalysis, Polymers and Processes located at CPE Lyon on the Doua campus (Villeurbanne), the SOMC team (Surface Organometallic Chemistry) is developing a rational approach for the development of innovative catalysts in which the knowledge of the structure of the active site is crucial to establish a reliable structure-activity relationship. Through this scientific approach, the COMS team tackles major issues related to sustainable development and green chemistry in areas such as: catalysis (petrochemistry-fine-biomass chemistry ...) and energy (storage- new electrolytes-production H2 ...). The developed approach aims at preparing well-defined active species (organometallic complexes and nanoparticles) and at securing their localization and distribution onto hybrid silica supports. The SOMC approach also requires a constant development of characterization tools needed to establish a relationship between the structure of the active site, its activity and properties.
